The Red Mantle or just Redmantle is the working title for a new medieval fantasy novel. Redmantle takes place in Early Modern Europe, but a Europe marked by significant differences stemming from a single decision taken by Emperor Theodosius. It is a Europe marked by wizards and sorcerers, religious conflict and civil war. In Albion (the nation that occupies the British Isles) civil war is brewing. In Lugada (mainland Europe) the Roman Empire is suffering a stormy succession, and Merovance is plotting to expand it’s influence by fueling unrest in Hiberia (the Iberian peninsula) and Rome (Italy, Germany, Burgundy and Austria). Against this tumult, we study the lives of three princely families enduring the loss and violence that only pride, family and jealousy can produce.
